All You Need to Know About Leather Shoulder Holsters

Shoulder holsters are a common kind of holsters used today. These holsters are fastened with shoulder straps, in a way that closely resembles a backpack. It is placed underneath the arm to conceal a revolver beneath a jacket or an overcoat and leather are usually used to make these holsters.

What are leather shoulder holsters?

Shoulder holsters made with leather are much more comfortable to wear as the weight of the holster carrying the gun is thoroughly distributed over the shoulders. The leather straps generally cross over providing more support to the shooter or gun owner to carry the revolver. These holsters have compartments for extra magazines and they tend to swing in the contrary direction away from the body.

Shoulder holsters are expected to retain the revolver in any one of the three positions: in a vertical position, with the muzzle pointing towards the ground; in a horizontal position, with the muzzle pointing behind the shooter or in a vertical position, with the muzzle pointing towards the sky.

Types of Leather Shoulder Holsters:

  1. Vertical Leather Shoulder Holsters: Among the two types of vertical holsters, the muzzle of the first one faces towards the sky. It is commonly known as an upside-down leather shoulder holster. These holsters are easy to hide. These holsters are the most challenging to get a solid shooting grip since the rear end of the revolver points backwards. The second holster with the muzzle facing downwards is relatively easier to draw. But in this type of holster, one has to give up the concealment.
  1. 45 degrees Leather Shoulder Holsters: With this style of holster, accessing the grip is quicker. The angle also tends to make the gun convenient to conceal. The 45-degree angle performs well with lengthier muzzles and women find this form way simpler than men.

  2. Horizontal Leather Shoulder Holsters: The most widely obtainable holsters are horizontal leather shoulder holsters. These holsters are quicker to draw the revolver. The rear end of the revolver is in a position that enables a strong natural grip to draw the revolver from the holster.
